The year is coming to end and while the list of favourite
smartphones is now out, leaks around what 2017 will offer in the mobile world
continue to take place. There’s no doubt that in 2017 there are great
expectations from the smartphone industry; we’re hoping to see new designs,
faster phones, and innovation that will be useful.
Apple
Apple is expected to bring a major upgrade to its 2017 flagships.
The iPhone 8 has already been the centre of many leaks, with some reports
suggesting the upcoming iPhone will finally get an OLED display. Apple might
also do away with the aluminium casing in favour of an all-glass body, similar
to iPhone 4/4s series.
An iPhone 8 with a bezel-less display and no actual physical home
button is also rumoured. The 2017 iPhone could also bring wireless charging to
the mix, a feature that has been long awaited.
The Galaxy S8 will make an appearance in February 2017, though some
reports suggest April, and it is likely to be the first smartphone to have
Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset.
Latest rumours suggest Galaxy S8 have a 6-inch display version
packed with 8GB of RAM. Samsung is expected to do away with the 3.5mm headphone
jack and introduce a USB Type-C port for charging.
A tipster from Weibo has hinted at the S8 getting a dual (13MP +
12MP) camera setup, but conflicts with most reports which suggests that Samsung
will not be introducing this. We can also expect Samsung to launch the Galaxy
Note 8 next year.
Nokia plans to jump right back into the smartphone market in 2017,
following the expiry of a non-compete clause it signed withMicrosoftwhen the latter acquired its mobile
business. Once a dominant and well established brand, Nokia will re-enter the
market with newAndroiddevices
which will be manufactured by HMD Global using the Nokia brand.
Nokia D1C is expected to be one of the first phones to be out next
year at MWC 2017. The Android OS based smartphone is expected to come in two
variants – 2GB/3GB RAM. According to leaks on Nokia Power User, D1C will be
powered by a Snapdragon 430 processor, and will come in two display sizes; a
5-inch and 5.5-inch version along with a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front
camera.
Nokia P smartphone is another device expected to launch in 2017.
BlackBerry
is no longer making smartphones in-house, but instead will partner with China’s
TCL; the latter will manufacture and distribute BlackBerry-branded phones. TCL
is expected to announce BlackBerry-branded smartphones at CES 2017 and
BlackBerry Mercury could be revealed at the show.

Mercury images were leaked earlier this month, which show a device sporting
a full QWERTY keyboard. The phone is speculated to feature a 4.5-inch display,
Snapdragon 625 processor and come with 3GB RAM. It will be sporting an 18MP
rear camera along with an 8MP front shooter. The phone will be running Android
7.0 Nougat and come with 32GB of on-board storage.
HTC is struggling in the premium smartphone segment, but is not
giving up on smartphones yet. According to leaks, HTC 11 will be packed with a
5.5-inch Quad HD display (2560 x 1440 pixels resolution).
The phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor
and could have 8GB of RAM on board along with 256GB storage. Leaks have also
suggested that HTC 11 might come with a dual-camera setup, featuring two 12MP
modules. The front of the device will be sporting an 8MP camera.
Google
has ditched the Nexus brand in favour of ‘Pixel’ devices, which now carry the
company’s logo on the back. Google Pixel and Pixel XL have received rave
reviews from the audience, and have been priced in the premium segment to take
on the iPhone.
Pixel devices bring a much deeper integration to Google compared
to other Android devices, and have a new Google Assistant – which is a

Apple MacBook Pro 2016
The new MacBook Pro is no regular upgrade. It ushers in some
radical design changes, making it the thinnest andsmallest of the kind. In fact, the 13-inch
version is smaller than the 2015 MacBook Air of the same size.
Now, the MacBook Pro has four Thunderbolt 3 ports, all of which can
help charge the device and transfer data. But there is no space for the Magsafe
charger, nor are there regular USB ports. You will not waste a second figuring
out where to plug the charger; the USB Type-C cables can plug into any of the
four ports to charge the Mac, transfer data or power a 4K monitor with video
output.
The one thing that sets the new MacBook Pro apart from any other
computing device in the market is the Touch Bar with TouchID. This strip of
multi-touch sensitive display replaces the functions keys above the keyboard and you can use the strip to access additional functions on anything you are doing
on the Mac; right from frame by frame search on Final Cut Pro to just multi-tab
browsing on Safari.
What is good?
Apple has brought in the kind of audio quality that makes the iPad Pro sound
stunning, to the Mac as well. So this one is louder than any other Mac, and the
sound is richer and deeper too.
Macs have traditionally had great, vibrant displays that have tried
to make images look as natural as possible. Now, the new MacBook Pro takes it a
notch up by making it brighter, richer and sharper. At 500 nits it is really
bright, and you might not need to keep the brightness up unless you are working
under the sunlight.
On desktop mode, you will turn to the strip to adjust brightness or
volume or even turn on Siri, while on notes it will give you predictive text or
help change fonts. You can swish through tabs or photos with a swipe on this
bar. It is unlike anything we have seen before. Then the TouchID at the end of
the strip makes it easy to log back in from sleep. Plus, the trackpad has
become really big and easy to work with.
What is not that good?
The keyboard now has a new butterfly mechanism, which feels
different from MacBook Air, not really in a good way. The keys seem to hit a
flat at the end of its travel, and send a small kick up the fingers, which will
take some getting used to.
The new MacBook Pro has four Thunderbolt 3 ports based on the USB-C
standard. No Magsafe, no regular USB ports. While you can use any of the four
ports to charge your device or transfer data, you will need to invest in
adapters to connect with old world devices and accessories like hard drives.
Till the rest of the world catches up, it is going to be a struggle.
Should you buy?
Yes, if you are a power user for whom the TouchBar and extra
processing power will mean time saved and money made. For others, all this is a
bit too expensive now to make sense.
The Apple MacBook Pro is undoubtedly the most powerful computing
device you can rest on your laps, you will get used to the TouchBar and the
lack of more traditional ports. There aren’t many other laptops that excel at
so many different aspects.
Nintendo’s most bankable character Mario has arrived to smartphones
on December 15.At Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus event held in September ,the Wii maker first announced Super Mario Run was released on December 15 to a global audience,
which means that it reached the 50 million target in just over one week. The
game was earlier reported to have gained 40 million downloads just four days
after the launch. The game became the top app in the iOS App Store within a few
days. The game requires an active Internet connection to play, and cannot be
accessed when offline.
The 173 mb sized app is available for free download to all users on
iOS, but gives only limited access to the three game modes. To get complete
access to the game, a user needs to pay Rs 620 to purchase the app. Super Mario
Run is presently exclusive to iOS, but Nintendo plans for the game to debut onGooglePlay Store as well at a future date.
AN ACTIVE INTERNET CONNECTION IS REQUIRED TO
PLAY GAME, HERE’s WHY
Nintendo says the game can’t be played offline. That means you need
a constant internet connection to play the game. I commute to office on the
metro, so if my data connection gets lost the game will pause automatically and
not let me continue. That’s not fair, Nintendo.
Now let’s talk about the harsh side. The first three levels are
free, and you have to pay Rs 620 to unlock the full game. That’s a bummer. From
Nintendo’s point of view, Super Mario Run is not costly. But do keep in mind
that this game falls under runner genre and most of these titles are free on
the App store.
Speaking to Mashable, creator of the game, Miyamoto said that an
active Internet connection will be required to play the game. He’s citing
security concerns as the reason why it isn’t available in offline mode. By
security reasons, Miyamoto means digital pirates could steal the codes of the
game in offline mode.
“We do have the Nintendo accounts system and through [that] we will
be able to have connections, and players will be able to — for example — keep
their saved data up in the cloud. And obviously, from a consumer perspective,
your save data is a valuable thing,” Miyamoto told Mashable.
In another statement to Polygon, Nintendo has offered more
explanation on this obsession with the data connectivity. According to the
company, being online will offer players “access to other users’ play data and
scores for automatically generated Toad Rally challenges.” Additionally
“in-game events” which come with challenges, rewards can also be offered thanks
to online connectivity.

Super Mario Run is a little different from the traditional game
we’ve come to love and cherish. Unlike the older game you do not control the
forward movement of the character, as he constantly keeps moving forward while
you jump to navigate. Mario will behave differently depending on the timing of

Torrents (commonly abbreviated KAT) is a website that provided a directory for

proxy servers were shut down by its staff at the same time.

Torrents was recently shut down after its founder; Artem Vaulin was arrested in
Poland. As a result, many fake websites rose to fame but were nothing when
compared to Kickass Torrents. They were a mere copy of the Kickass website with
un-updated data with un-managed working. But it seems that soon the website
will be in working condition as before as it is reported to be.
WHAT IS KAT.cr
?
Months after US
authorities had shut down one of the largest torrent websites–Kickass torrents
or KAT–and arrested its owner Artem Vaulin from Poland, the portal has
been brought back to life by some of its former employees.
Katcr.co forum, which
was launched shortly after the shut down by several KAT-crew members who had
regrouped in an effort to get the community part of the site backup, last
week launched a fully operational torrent site. The site, which looks
identical to its predecessor, has a clean user database but many members of the
original staff are on board.
“The majority of our original staff, admins and moderation team
joined us after Kat.cr went down–which is something we’re very proud of.This
shows the loyalty, dedication and real love for KAT that we all share,” The
KATcr team told Torrent Freak.
This is not the first time KAT has been restored. Earlier,
several mirrors of the portal including one by another torrent giant
IsoHunt were launched but this is only site with the original team behind it.
Despite the fact that
people in charge of KATcr did not have access to original code and data, as at
the original KAT those who run the technical and financial affairs of the site
were separated from administrators and crew, it is remarkable how they were
able to put together bits and pieces to make it look identical to its predecessor.
A new Kat.cr looks similar to old one.
The KATcr crew quoted, “We have all our major up loaders on
board and they continued to share tirelessly even before the torrent engines
returned. The torrent community can continue to expect to see uploads from all
the names they know and trust.” They added, “The majority of our original Staff,
Admins and Moderation team joined us after Kat.cr went down – which is
something we’re very proud of. This shows the loyalty, dedication and real love
for KAT that we all share.” The staffers from the
website have also stated that their website has a proper DMCA take down
procedure, just like other websites like YouTube and that they do not store any
copyrighted material to their own server.
Given that US authorities are still pursuing legal
action against the website’s former operators, it seems it is a matter of time
before government officials take aim at the new Kickass Torrents mirror and try
to shut it down – much like its antecedent.
